    Causes of QuickBooks Error 6147

    There can be many possible reasons for this error to happen.

    • A corrupted QuickBooks file.
    • If the user is trying to restore the backup files using network drive.
    • The name of backup file is greater than 210 characters which is the limit.

    How to resolveQuickBooks Error 6147?

    To solve this error, one must follow the guidelines provided online by Intuit.

    If the error is because of company file:

    First Solution –  

    Download and install QuickBooks File Doctor, their utility software, on your system. This can identify and rectify the error relating to file damages. Check for damaged and unverified data in the Files menu of QuickBooks. Verify the data for any possible unknown sources. If there is no problem, then select the Rebuild option for data damages. If the problem persists, technical support team must be called for the removal of errors. You can call on 1-888-412-7852 for their help.

    If the error is due to a problem in the backup, the follow Solution 2

    Second Solution – 

    Change the location of Backup and Restore.

    If file is located on Online QuickBooks Backup, then save an offline copy of the backup file on a local system.Ensure that the computer is not being hosted, and is not in a multi-user environment while restoring the backup file.

    Security software like Trend Micro Titanium can also cause this error, in which case there is a third solution.

    Third Solution-

    Configure Trend Micro Titanium’s security settings to match your QuickBooks

    Exclude the folder that contains the Company file from Trend Micro Titanium’s block list. To do this, you will need to open the settings of Trend Micro Titanium and specify the folder path in the exemption list. To find out the location of your file, open QuickBooks software along with clicking the Control key on your keyboard. A window of “No Company Open” will appear. Find the specific company file and ensure it goes on the top of the list.

    These three steps should be able to resolve the QuickBooks Error 6147. If not, then make sure the name of the file is less than 210 characters and that the QuickBooks File Doctor is being used efficiently.
